Commencement Speech
This time of year we all know how a commencement speech can send us into snooze mode. Check out Dana Stabenow's speech that she recently gave at Kenai Peninsula College. The title was Say Yes To Everything. It is a great speech. Dana says she will never give another one of these but after reading it I believe she needs to rethink that decision. Click here to her web site: www.stabenow.com and check it out. By the way if you have never read her Kate Shugak mystery series you are missing out on some great reading.

Hats and Flowers
Update on the soft yarn knitted hats. The Deborah Norville yarn was wonderfully soft to work with...but... I only got two hats out of the skein. This is my standard Knit-A-Cap pattern. The fact that the yarn skein was only 3 1/2 oz limited how many hats could be finished. As I also wrote before it is not cost effective for donation knitting. But the colors are wonderful so it is unfortunate I won't be using this yarn for my Knit-A-Cap hats. When I took a pix of the two hats I also included the yarn I had left, the tiny strand at the top.
Also here is a pix of the Japanese flowers I have I have finished so far. They are easy to crochet. I have an idea for them but we will see how it turns out before I comment on it.

Soft Yarn
I had this skein of Deborah Norville Everyday Soft Worsted yarn in my stash. I had gotten it on clearance at Hobby Lobby. It is the most wonderfully soft acrylic yarn I have worked with. It is a 3 1/2 oz/180 yd skein. It is super soft but a little pricey for such a small skein, $4.99 but it was marked on clearance for $2.99. This hat is very soft and has a nice striping pattern. It would be nice for a sweater if you don't mind paying the price. I do so I won't be buying it unless it is on sale or clearance.

Japanese Flowers
Recently I found some patterns for crocheted Japanese flowers on Pinterest. I thought I would make some and see if I liked them. There were a lot of patterns and they were all similar. I did find that there were two differences for the centers. I tried one of each. I am not sure if I like one better than the other. I think that they could be combined in a project and still go well together. Any opinions?

Kleenex Boxes
I saw a pattern for Kleenex box covers recently. Since I have never made any I thought I would try it. The pattern is pinned on my crochet board on Pinterest and is from Daniela Herbertz. It is super easy and a quick crochet.
The yarn is Red Heart With Love. The colors are Violet #1530,
Hot Pink #1701 and Daffodil #1201.
