Finally Finished

The "Taffy" socks are finally finished. I do not know what the problem has been with them. They still do not fit as nicely as others I have made. They seem about 1/4 of an inch too long. That might not sound like much but in a shoe it can make a difference. I never figured out what the problem was as I used my standard sock recipe: Yarn Harlot's Basic Sock Recipe. So these will not get worn as much as some of my others but they will be there if I need them.

Frozen

The girls called today and asked if I would like to go with them to see Disney's Frozen which just came out today. I had just heard a great review about the movie this morning so off we went. This has to be one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend it. I took a picture of the girls in front of the movie poster. When I looked at it Jo seemed to be giving it a rating of 5. Go see it. It is worth the price.

More Fun

Today was another fun day. We went to Grapevine Mills Mall and Bass Pro Shop. I had promised the girls we would ride the little train at the mall.

Waiting to ride the train.

We had a lot of fun.

We headed over to Bass Pro and the girls rode the Reindeer Merry-Go-Round.

Great Fun.

Dolls and Trees

Jo is out of school for Thanksgiving so we made the trip to the American Girl Doll store. Whew it is like doll overload in that store. But we had a great time and also went on over to The Galleria to see the giant Christmas tree in the ice rink. Fun day even if it was very cold outside.

Sadly this picture was blurry but it shows how tall the tree is.

A fun day and the trip was made before the craziness of the holiday shopping.

Granny Squares

The granny squares are coming along. The weather is very bad here and expected to get worse so I should have plenty of time to work on them this weekend. These are bordered in white and will be bordered again in the blue. I am using join-as-you-go method so as I crochet the blue they will be joined to the middle portion of the blankie.

On the left is one square trimmed in blue that is ready to be added to the main part of the blankie.

I still have several rows of double crochet on the center part of the blankie before these squares can be added. I am basing this blankie off one I found on Pinterest but am also deciding on how big it will be on the amount of yarn I have. No buying yarn for this one. I am using the stash.

Thanksgiving Lunch

Today was Thanksgiving lunch at Jo's school. She invited me to come and enjoy it along with Allison and Scout. It was great fun and the meal was actually quite good. Thanks Jo it was fun.

Another Project

Do you ever have eight or so projects that you float between depending on your mood? I do. I also do this with my books. Depending on stress level or pain levels I fluctuate back and forth. This is a little project that I saw a picture of on Pinterest. Sometimes I like long drawn out rows of lace knitting and sometimes I like short quick crocheted granny squares. This weekend there is a need for finishing a square, join as you go project. I like the brightness of the colors and will list them later.

Crochet Room

I have several things I am knitting and crocheting that cannot be shown yet. We would not want to ruin the surprise. So I looked through the pictures on my computer and found this:

I cannot remember where I saw this. It was probably posted on a blog or just a picture someone had liked, maybe on Pinterest. I just like it.

Cigar Boxes

Yesterday www.squaregrannie.blogspot.com posted about cigar boxes. I agreed with her that as kids there were always cigar boxes around for us to be able to put to good use. I went and pulled out two of my three boxes. One is packed away with Christmas stuff in it so there is no picture of it. But here are the other two.

This box came from my neighbor many years ago. I always think of him when I use it. He was a sweet man.

It holds many of my threads, scissors and pins that I use frequently.

This one I bought for a quarter at a garage sale last spring. I thought it would be good for the grandgirls to use to store the colors they use when they are here.

 It worked perfectly.

We used to take my grandpa, who lived in Missouri, Lovera cigars when we would visit him. I think they were only available in Texas. It was kindof the same thing as when you could couldn't get Coors beer in Kentucky. Yeah, we took care of our relatives in a weird way. Wish I still had a Lovera box just because of my grandpa. I am sure there are more cigar boxes out there and some are very fun to look at. I agee with Square Grannie, just seeing them brings back memories.

Hodge Podge Blankie

The Hodge Podge Blankie, so named by Jo because of all the different colors of yarn, is coming along. This is the little blankie I started a while back using the leftover yarn from socks I have made. The picture does not do justice to it's cuteness. I have no idea when this blankie will be finished because I still have four or five more sock yarns to make into socks. Then the leftover yarn will be added.  It is just a granny square and crocheted with an E hook. Right now it is a 35" square.

Second Sock

I am knitting along on the second sock of the Lion Brand Sock Ease in #202 Taffy. This sock, knock on wood, is knitting much better than the first one. Not sure what the issue was with the first one but I will have to be careful to measure this one when I get close to the toe so it is not too big. I am using 2.5mm needles.

Veteran's Day

Today is the day to thank all our Veteran's for their service to our country. Because of them we still live in the best country in the world.

My son Joseph. These are pictures from graduation from basic training in the Army. But they are a couple of my favorites. He served in Iraq.

My dad Tom Statler. He served with the Navy in WWII in the Pacific and on Okinawa, Japan.

My brother in law Chappell Wilson. He served in the Army during the Vietnam era and also commanded the reserves at Ft Campbell, Kentucky.

Robert Jones who currently serves with the Army. My sister and brother in law met Robert through Wounded Warrior Project. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is now based here in the states.

This year while doing research on our Dad's Navy duty my sister sent me this article about our cousin, Phillip Fox. He was killed in Vietnam in 1966. I started to just put his picture and then decided to include the whole article. I guess not just to honor him but because I knew everyone listed in his family.

Thanks to these men and all the other men and women who faithfully and freely serve our great country.

Bow Practice

Yeah we are a hunting family. Whether it be shooting a gun or using a bow we love it. DIL got a new bow over the weekend and so it needed to be "tried out" by several people.

I like this picture even though you can't see anyone's face. They are all intent on the bow.

The new pink camo bow.

Of course some of us are too young yet to shoot so Scout found her entertainment in another way. Ring toss with Uncle Joseph.

Hopefully this weekend we will be processing some deer.
